The Two Sisters


The settlers called them "The Lions"...but the Squawmish name for them translated from
their language...is..."The Two Sisters". There is a story handed down about how they got that name. There were two sisters who brought peace to this part of the West Coast.
They were honoured for this by being turned into stone...so that they could be remembered down through time...the opposite of the European notion of being turned to stone as a punishment. Once wrote a song about them based on this story. Today's
picture caught them highlighted by the snow...and dwarfing even the high rises below...
